May 5th – Balboa Workshop and Monthly Dance

Saturday, May 5th

12:00pm – 4:00pm  Balboa Workshop
Location: Stafford Wellness (Formerly the Courthouse Athletic Club, 2111 Courthouse Dr. Longview)

It’s time to learn and improve that Balboa!!  We will begin the day at the beginner level and slowly pick up the pace as the classes progress.  Can’t wait to see you there!

12:00pm – 12:50pm – ”My Dear Watson”
Level: Beginner
This class we will review the basic mechanics and broaden the theory/technique on the basic Balboa steps. (connection, frame, footwork, come-around, out-and-ins, etc)

1:00pm – 1:50pm – “My Way of Thinking”
Level: Beginner/Intermediate
This class will utilize both basic patterns to execute the ‘come-around’.

2:00pm – 2:50pm – ”The Baby with the Bathwater”
Level: Beginner/Intermediate
This class will be all about toss-outs. We will review and expand on the come-around, the toss-out, and the catch. We will also explore several different variations on the toss-out.

3:00pm – 3:50pm – ”Up a creek…”
Level: Intermediate
This class will cover everything you will need for wilderness survival…that’s right, we will be going over paddle kicks! Paddles are an extremely useful Balboa technique and integral to any growing Balboa dancer. They allow for improvising, resetting footwork…they are really the glue that holds the Balboa dance together.

**To our more experienced dancers: Remember, we always do a beginner lesson (7:30pm) directly before the dance to make sure our new attendees feel welcome and have some material to take into the dance. Therefore we do our more intermediate lesson at an earlier time (6:30pm). Even though you may already know the basics we encourage you to also take the beginner lesson because 1) more practice is always great, and 2) it helps out our beginner dancers tremendously! 🙂
Thank you for helping to promote and grow dancing in East Texas!!
